CMHA Association Volunteerism Policy

Volunteering Policy and what constitutes an "Association" hour

Introduction:

CMHA appreciates our parent volunteers.  That is the most important fact that we would like to acknowledge.  Without our parents helping out, we would not be able to run our programs for our children.  For this, we THANK YOU!

The success of our organization, and subsequent enjoyment of our members, depends on you, the volunteer.  CMHA requires a volunteerism deposit. There are many positions that if volunteers did not fill would result in your child not being able to play due to the prohibitively high cost of running an association with paid staff.

This volunteerism deposit has proven very successful in amateur sports as a way of ensuring that there are enough people to help with the activities of the association, and that the work is fairly distributed across more families.  The CMHA volunteer deposit has been set at a similar value to those of other local sports groups.

*** NEW IN 2019-20 SEASON ***

With our new website, we will be using its native volunteering management module.  It's called "Dibs".  See the link below, starting in early August, for tryout and evaluation volunteering.   Dibs for season-long jobs will be available to claim in the new year (January 2020).

You do not need to sign up for anything extra - your new SportsEngine account will be where you will "call dibs" on your volunteering sessions.  You can look in your profile to see what you have signed up for, and you will receive a reminder from Dibs the day before your shift.

This season, we will be creating sign ups based on 2 hour chunks of time, rather than a schedule that is tied to the tryout sessions.

Better Impact will NOT be used for volunteering sign ups effective immediately.

This year's deposit is: $150 post-dated cheque to April 1, 2020.  Submit to your team manager.  Due with jersey deposit.

This year's requirement is:

DIBS sign ups (ASSOCIATION help)* + TOURNAMENT shifts assigned + TEAM-BASED duties assigned

Only jobs that are approved will be given credit.  Please see the link above to ensure that the job you are doing meets the criteria for "association" volunteering.

Penalty with deposit submitted: $150 deposit will be given to the CMHA Foundation Fund after program expenses have been covered.

No deposit/No hours penalty: $150 assessment will be added to following year's registration fees owed and will be given to the Foundation Fund.

Responsibility: It is up to you, the volunteer, to ensure that you fulfill your volunteer commitment.
